It’s wonderful to receive lots of lovely gifts at Christmas, but do you sometimes feel like you just don’t have room for more ‘stuff’? In this, the sixth part of our 7 New Year Money Tips, we’re looking at how you can have a clear-out and clean up at the same time.
Become an online seller
There’s something very therapeutic about cleaning and de-cluttering. And it’s even better if you can raise some money in the process. While most car boot sales are currently out-of-bounds, you can still sell your unwanted items on eBay, Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. Just snap a few pictures, upload your listing and wait for the offers to come rolling in.
Sell your antiques or collectables
If you have items that you think could be valuable, many local auction houses run free valuation days. They’ll sell your items for you, taking a percentage of the final sale price. For smaller or less valuable items, you can parcel them up and send them off to a company like Vintage Cash Cow. They’ll pay the postage and then make you an offer for your goods. If you don’t like the offer, you simply decline it, and they’ll send everything back to you. And for books, CDs and tech items, Music Magpie makes it quick and easy to scan and list what you want to sell. Then they’ll give you a price, ready for you to send everything off to them free of charge.
If you found this useful, look out for our final New Year Money Tip, where we’ll be checking up on pensions.
