According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, about 11m households could save £200 or more a year by changing suppliers. With so many comparison sites out there, its also easier to do than ever. The same goes for your insurance, so shop around when the time comes to renew. Even if you want to stay with the same provider, telling them about your alternative quote may help you negotiate the cost down. Consumer group Which? said 8 in 10 people polled in a survey, successfully haggled for a better deal on car insurance, saving them £60 a year on average.
